HOW -TO OVERCOME “SHORTING” OF 1939 MAGNETOS IN WET WEATHER

The shorting of the 1939 magnetos in wet weather can be overcome
by sealing the high tension lead in the distributor block.
Proceed as follows :

  1. Remove distributor block.
  2. Remove high tension lead from distributor block.
  3. Slide rubber grommet (Indian part No. 102005) over end of lead removed from distributor block, having flat surface of grommet at bottom.
  4. Now, with a good grade of rubber cement (such as used in tire repairs) cement lead into distributor bloc!{ by first putting a little cement in hole in distributor block. Cement flat surface of grommet on lead then allow to set a few . seconds. Then insert lead into hole in distributor block pressing lead home to bottom. Now, slide grommet down on lead so that it presses against distributor block; hold in this position for a few seconds until cement sets.
